BioBiography: Albus Dumbledore was born on December 26, 1840. His mother and father, Friedrich and Winola, emigrated from Germany and settled in a rural town in northern Scotland, where they raised Albus and his brother, Aberforth. Both boys went to Hogwarts at the age of eleven and sorted into Gryffindor. He graduated from Hogwarts in 1858 and went to work under Nicolas Flamel. While working with Flamel, Dumbledore worked with the Sorcerer’s Stone and discovered the twelve uses of dragon’s blood. In 1910, at the age of 50, Dumbledore took over the position of Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts. Dumbledore gained respect through his successful teaching at Hogwarts, but it wasn’t until 1945 and his defeat of Grindelwald that he was recognized by the Ministry. He was given an Order of Merlin, First Class for this and was invited to sit on the International Confederation of Wizards. Several years later, he graciously accepted a position on the Wizengamot and was named its Chief Wizengamot in 1970, the same year he accepted the position of Headmaster at Hogwarts.
Dumbledore married Vevila O’Reilly in 1865. He and his half-blooded wife raised three girls. After she died in 1931 at the age of ninety, Albus met and married a sixty year-old Muggle, Carolyn Hewitt. Carolyn introduced him to lemon drops and is alive today thanks to the properties of the Sorcerer's Stone.
